Berkeley Bb Jezz Bent Bell Super Trombone w/ 3 Valves Trumpet. French Horn FireBird Trumpet w/Trombone EZ Transpose Silver
It's here! It arrived in good shape - although the box showed signs of some rough handling. The case is great though, protected it quite well.
Initial thoughts: NICE sound! Valves work well. Slides work well. The trombone slide is a smidge shorter than the old Holton Firebird - you can get to 4th position, but it's right on the edge of coming off! I also noticed that it has both a first and third valve slide rings. The Firebird did NOT have those. And, if you are thinking of trying for a less expensive way to build this horn, both of those slides do not need to be adjusted on the fly as you can simply use the main trombone slide instead. So save the cost of the rings!
What a beautiful horn! Simply stunning!
Most of all, I want to simply say, "Thank you", not only for a wonderful horn, but for restoring my faith in humanity. Many times over the past 18 months, I worried that my money was simply gone, worried that - thanks to Ebay's policies, I had no real resort to trying to get my money back. But you came through for me. Thank you so much. Let me know if there is anyway I can promote you or your business in the future with a review or endorsement of some kind. You are honest, you have integrity - and I am grateful. Thank you, thank you, thank you! - Kurt

The
Super trombone can be played as a slide trombone, a valve trumpet, or
in
combination. Extending the slide in order to transpose pitches downward
causes tuning problems with the valves. Using the valves in this manner
requires slide positions to be adjusted, just as when using the pistone
Alternative slide positions are available when valves are depressed.
Similar trombones combining valves and a slide were mass-produced in the early 20th century, some by C.G. Conn. The best-known of these was the valide trombone—the name is a portmanteau of 'valve' and 'slide'—invented by jazz trombonist and reed player Brad Gowans.[2] Gowans played one from the 1920s through the 1950s, including with Jimmy Dorsey.
